Experiences from people we have helped
Zulaikha Ahmad

"I had been receiving less pension than I expected after my husband retired from the civil service. I did not know where to begin. Perisai Law reviewed everything and sent me a written note that finally explained what had happened. The team was patient and never made me feel like I was asking silly questions."

"I lodged an appeal through Perisai Law after my EPF claim was partially rejected. They handled all the correspondence and kept me informed throughout. It took about two months, and the outcome was satisfactory. I would not have known how to manage the process on my own."

"I wanted to plan properly for retirement and was confused about how my pension and EPF interact with my beneficiary arrangements. The session with Perisai Law was unhurried and genuinely helpful. I came out with a clear written summary and a much better understanding of where things stand."

"After my mother passed, I found it difficult to understand what pension amounts she had been entitled to and whether the estate had received the right figures. Perisai Law was straightforward about what they could and could not determine, and their written note was very useful when speaking to the relevant authorities."

"What I valued most was that nobody pushed me toward anything. I came in unsure whether I needed legal help at all. They assessed my situation honestly and told me that parts of my concern were administrative rather than legal — and directed me accordingly. That kind of candour is rare."

"The appeal process was something I had been dreading. Perisai Law made it manageable. They were clear about what each step involved, and whenever I had questions they responded quickly and in plain English. The fee was exactly what was quoted at the start — nothing additional."

Detailed Accounts
Case journeys in brief
Three situations we helped resolve — described in general terms to respect client privacy.
Pension shortfall — civil service retiree
Benefits Assessment → Appeal & Dispute Support
Situation
A retired government officer was receiving significantly less in monthly pension than he believed he was entitled to based on his service record and final salary. Repeated enquiries to the relevant department had not resolved the discrepancy.
What We Did
We conducted a Benefits Assessment to identify the basis of the calculation and where it appeared to diverge from the applicable regulations. With the written assessment in hand, we then prepared and lodged a formal appeal, managing all correspondence over a three-month period.
Outcome
The pension calculation was revised and the shortfall was acknowledged. The client's monthly amount was adjusted accordingly. The process took approximately fourteen weeks from the initial assessment to final confirmation.
Beneficiary arrangements — retirement planning
Retirement Planning Counsel
Situation
A woman approaching retirement had pension funds spread across two employers, EPF contributions, and a survivorship provision she did not fully understand. She wanted to ensure her spouse and adult children would be properly provided for.
What We Did
We worked through her documents with her, explained the interaction between each type of entitlement, identified gaps in her beneficiary nominations, and prepared a written counsel note setting out recommended actions and the reasoning behind each one.
Outcome
She updated her nominations and put the relevant documents in order. She felt informed and settled about the arrangements, and knew what to revisit if her circumstances changed.
EPF partial withdrawal dispute
Appeal & Dispute Support
Situation
A client's application for a partial EPF withdrawal under Account 2 provisions had been declined without a clear explanation. The client was close to retirement age and had been relying on the funds for a specific purpose.
What We Did
We reviewed the rejection letter, identified the procedural ground cited, gathered supporting documentation, and submitted a formal reconsideration request with a detailed written explanation addressing the specific basis for decline.
Outcome
The withdrawal application was approved on reconsideration. The client received the funds within four weeks of the reconsideration submission. Total process from engagement to resolution: six weeks.
